Legal Question in Bankruptcy in California

Where can I obtain free legal advice about bankruptcy? I am try to decide between going that route and debt settlement.

Keep in mind that a Chapter 7 bankruptcy, if you qualify, would probably wipe out most of your unsecured debts, like credit cards. If you don't qualify, then you might consider a Chapter 13, wherein you pay a portion of your debts over a period of 3 or 5 years, for the most part.

You might look online. There are a lot of very educational posts by attorneys and knowledgeable others. Also, there are self-help books in the library. If you were to consider an organization to assist you with your debts, make sure to check their track record online before agreeing to do anything. A few don't have a sterling reputation for disbursing funds entrusted to them.
