Legal Question in Bankruptcy in California

Owe Taxes

I am preparing to file Chapter 7 bankruptcy. My question is this. I really just need a yes or no answer.

1.)I owe about $600 dollars in taxes for this recent tax period 2001.

2.) Can I still file for bankruptcy while I pay off my taxes? I was told that I should pay them off first, but with this new legislation in congress I wanted to file as soon as possible before the law changes.

Your taxes for 2001 are nondischargeable in a bankruptcy so you will have to pay them off regardless of whether you file bankruptcy or not.
