Legal Question in Bankruptcy in California
I am owed $1600 for some work I did for a business in June 2007. The business owner filed chapter 13. I just received a notice from the bankruptcy court that advised me of this and for creditors to file a timely objection and/or request for hearing. How can I recover the money that was owed to me? If so, how can I do so without all the legal expenses since the amount is not that great? Thanks.

You should have been provided a claim form. Fill it out and attach evidence of your work, such as an invoice. You might receive pennies on the dollar during the life of the Chapter 13 plan. Then, again, many Chapter 13 plans fail and the bankruptcy is either dismissed or converted to a Chapter 7, so you should keep tabs on its progress.
