Legal Question in Bankruptcy in California

What happens if i am rejected from bankruptcy and i don't pay

Hello

I am attempting to file bankruptcy in Orange Co. Calif, with a lawyer from LegalMatch. Only one answered. I owe about $30,000 in credit card debt and $600 in phone bills. My only income is Soc Sec and Union retirement checks. About $31000 a year. I live outside USA in Africa, but Calif. is still my home address. If i am turned down from bankruptcy and i don't pay anyway. What will happen to me. I have tried every avenue to solve this in a resonable way. I do not want to ruin my credit, but this is my question. Can they get my retirement money, or future inheritance money. I have no assets except a $500 car. Thank you.

As long as you maintained a residence in the area for the greater part of the last 180 days, you can file bankruptcy in Orange County. Feel free to contact me by e-mail if you have other concerns about why you think your bankruptcy might be rejected. Thanks.

Is the retirement money a lump sum in a retirement plan, or is it more like a guaranteed amount each month until your death? If it's money in a retirement plan, it may be vulnerable depending on the amount and your age. Future inheritances aren't at risk unless you actually receive it close in time to the bankruptcy, or have already received it.
