Legal Question in Bankruptcy in California

Removal of Bankruptcy from Credit Report

I am 22 years old and last September I filed Chapter 13 Bankrupty in order to eliminate $20,000 of secured (automobile) and unsecured (credit card) debt. I was curious if there would be any possible way down the road to erase my Chapter 13 from my record so that if quesioned on a job application, I would not be committing perjury by saying that I had never filed. Also, I have heard myths that a person can actually start a new and different credit report after Bankruptcy. Is ther any truth to this? Thank you very much for your assistance.

Thanks for your posting.

There is no way to remove a bankruptcy from your credit report, other than wait the 10 years for it to drop off your report.

Bankruptcies are a public record, and as long as the court has the record of bankruptcy, it will show up when a credit reporting agency gathers data from that court.

I would be very skeptical of anyone that promises to you that you can remove a bankruptcy from your credit report.

I hope that this information helps, but if you have other questions, want more information, or feel that you need legal help, please feel free to email me directly at [email protected].
