Legal Question in Bankruptcy in California
Renting an apartment after Chapter 7 discharge
My Chapter 7 was just discharged and I now need to rent an apartment. My credit check was declined although I am current on all payments other than the debts I included in the Chapter 7 and I gave the apartment manager a copy of all creditors I filed on to compare to my credit report. My income is more than adequate for the apartment I need to rent. I've even offered to double the security deposit and still the answer is no. What are my legal rights when renting? Can I be denied solely based on my bankruptcy? Do I have any recourse? Please help, I'm desperate!!!

Re: Renting an apartment after Chapter 7 discharge
You were right to offer a larger deposit. There's not much you can do, other than to get a note from your previous landlord that your rent was always on time.
