how do i start the bankruptcy process
i'm trying to file for chapter 7 but i dont know where to start can i just go to a court house and ask for info there or do i have to hire a lawyer and what i the difference between chp. 13 and chp. 7 thanks any info will be greatly appreciated

Generally, chapter 7 is a total liquidation and Chapter 13 is payment plan to your creditors. That is a very simplified explanation, but if you want more info you can go to the internet where there are a ton of resources and info on Bankruptcy. You can certainly file the petition on your own, but whether this is a good idea depends on the type of person that you are and how much time you want to invest in learning and understanding the process. Otherwise, hire an attorney and they can provide you with professional advice.
