Legal Question in Bankruptcy in California

Was told I had an April 1st deadline

A collection agency representative told me today that if I was planning to file for bankruptcy that I had to do so prior to April 1, 2000 - otherwise if I wait, the creditor of an unsecured debt that is over $2,000. would now have the legal right to go after me for wage garnishment. Is any of this true? What do you know about an April 1st 2000 deadline?

Thank you very much for this service!

When collection agents make nonsensical statements like this, it is best to get it IN WRITING. That way you have a basis to sue them under the FDCPA. There is no validity whatsoever to this claim that I am aware of. Get the name, phone number and any other information you can about the person making these representations. In any event, if you need representation towards bankruptcy, please feel free to give me a call (I believe you already did so, but I remain available).
