Legal Question in Bankruptcy in California

i own my truck witch is worth about 12,000.00 and i want to sell it to buy a car worth the same or less. i have just started a chapter 7 bankruptcy..can i do this?

You should wait until the trustee abandons your bankruptcy estate. That is usually done shortly after the meeting of creditors assuming you exempted the vehicle and there were no objections to the exemptions filed by anyone.
