Legal Question in Business Law in California
I am a 1099 truck driver. I work for a company that 1099 owners of trucks then I am hired by the owner to drive that truck cross country. The last guy I worked for owes me around $3,000 in back pay for services I provided and refuses to pay. I tried to get hired by another owner and was informed that I can not be hired because I was accused of stealing fuel. I have never stolen fuel from anyone and all fuel I have recorded all fuel purchased on all trips, dates, times, locations, odometer readings and amounts. Right now I have little money and I am unable to regain employment because of this false accusation. This previous owner I worked with is located in Burbank, CA. and I reside in Hemet, CA.
What do I need to do and can you please help? Thank You.

It sounds as though you may have a pretty strong case for defamation (slander if the statements made orally, libel if written) against the accusing party if you can identify the accuser and establish to the satisfaction of the judge or jury that the charges are false. However, you'll need to talk with attorneys closer to home (Riverside County, I assume) as I'm 500 miles away.
We understand your situation and we believe that your case should be given a more thorough evaluation in order to be sure that you get an accurate advise.
