Yes. However, it can be difficult sometimes with contractual agreements. For example, many contracts can be deemed invalid when signed by a minor. Therefore, financing can be a problem because lenders will insist on a cosigner over the age of 18 in case the minor defaults.

Many people have started a business before they were 18. Good Luck! I wish you great success. There are probably more books out there on how to start a business than there are books for lawyers, and that is saying a LOT!

it isn't illegal, but it might be difficult without help. Many types of contracts with people under the age of 18 are "voidable", meaning that the minor can get out of the contract. For example, a landlord might be reluctant to lease an office to your business because you might decided to back out a month later.

That being said, it isn't impossible and you just need the proper advisers to help you a long. Best wishes in your adventure.

I agree with Messrs. Wheeler and Starrett, but I would add that there is a concept called "emancipation" of minors ...... doesn't refer to freeing of slaves, but rather it is a legal concept regarding persons under 18 who are legally treated as adults because they (a) are married; (b) are active-duty members of the US armed forces; or (c) have received a declaration of emancipation from the Superior Court of the county in which they reside, upon petitioning for emancipation. Such a petition must set forth that the minor is at least 14, lives separate and apart from his/her parents or guardian, and is managing his or her own finances by completing and filing a Judicial Council Form FL-150. See California Family Code sections 7000-7002, 7050, and 7120-7123.
