Legal Question in Business Law in California
Can I Act As Project Manager In This Scenario?
Greetings,
I'm a Ggarden/Landscape Designer (NOT a Landscape Architect) working in California, with a standard city business license. I often get asked by my clients, if I could project manage their job, as well as do the design, which would mean, hiring and managing contractors to implement my work. If I were to do this, I would need to charge for my services. So, would it be legal for me to serve as project manager and charge for these services? It seems that things can get a bit confusing when contractors are involved, that's why I ask.
Thanks much!

The work that you are describing sounds as if it would fall under the jurisdiction of the Contractor's State License Board. If the contract is worth more than $500, chances are you need a license.

What you describe requires a contractors license. You would be violating the contractors licensing law if you acted without one, unless you charged less than $500 for the entire job.
