auto repair
i original received estimat of 3000 for car repair and i authorized the work to be done over the phone, then the price jumped to $5000.00. can they do that? The only thing i signed was a paper allowing them to diagnose a blown headgasket, wound up needing a new enginge.

Legally you are not required to pay anything beyond what you authorized over the phone.

The dealer is only authorized to perform services that you agreed to. Since you only asked for a diagnosis and he did not get your agreement to do the repairs then you are not liable for the bill. If he persists on harassing you to pay the bill I would be happy to help you get him off your back. Usually it only takes a letter from an attorney stating the law to get people like this off your back and usually to rethink suing you in small claims court.
