Is the contract of sale subject to California law or Ohio's? Your 44708 Zip code is in Canton, OH. California has a very detailed automobile sales finance act that covers every possible aspect of a car finance deal in great detail. See Civil Code sections 2981 to 2984.6, which is several pages of fine print. As I understand the law, which is not very well, sometimes the lender is entitled only to repossess the car, and nothing more; but under conditions where the buyer may have abused the car, if the repossession and sale doesn't cover the balance due, the lender can pursue remedies such as attachment of wages.
