Legal Question in Business Law in California

I'm a body piercer in the state of California and I live in Humboldt County. I'm wondering what the legal age of a minor would be to get the following piercings: ear, nose, navel, eyebrow and tongue. I have done some research and the only info I can find is,,,,,,,,,Body Piercing-Prohibits anyone from performing or offering to perform a piercing upon anyone under age 18 unless the piercing is performed in the presence of a parent or guardian or as directed and notarized by the minor's parent or guardian. Does not apply to emancipated minors and does not include pierces of the ear.,,,,,,,,,,,,,This seems very vague to me and I would like to get some more information before I start piercing minors. Thanks, B.L.

It doesn't seem vague to me. The information your research has turned up is correct and seems plain. Certainly you can understand the difference between ear piercing and other kinds of pierces, and how to check ID. If a prospective client comes to you claiming to be an emancipated minor, ask to see a copy of the court order. If notarized parental permission is offered, make a copy for your files and make an attempt to verify its authenticity by contacting the parents or the notary. If in doubt, turn the client away.

It may be that you are unfamiliar with the term "emancipated minor." What this means, is that the minor has filed paperwork with a court, seeking court approval to be "emancipated" from their parents. If it is granted, the emancipated minor is treated as an adult, regardless of their age.
