Your best recourse will be through the small claims court. So long as you can show them that he did in fact warranty the product. You do not need a lawyer to file that claim or represent you in court. This is basically what Judge Judy does and being in CA, if you are near to LA, you may even bring it there, which is really binding arbitration.

You may want to let him know that this is exactly what you intend on doing so he understands that you will make him waste his time.

It might also be useful to have the washer and your installation of it checked by a repair person with enough experience and good credentials to be able to testify as to the facts, including that the failure to work was inherent in the machine and didn't happen as a result of your transporting or installing the washer.
