Legal Question in Business Law in California

Brought my business to work.

I own a small moving company. I recently acepted the position of Facility Specialist. My manager asked if I knew of a good moving company. I recommended the one I owned. They have been used for almost one year. I am concered that I could get in trouble for not disclosing that it was my company. Can I get terminated for this?

You have a responsibility to tell your employer that you own the company.

Hmmmm, I'd say not disclosing your ownership was unethical, but at the moment I can't think of a reason why it would be illegal....failure to disclose is fraud only when there is a legal duty to disclose. If you were the one making the purchasing decision, that would be different. So, if by "get in trouble" you mean could you be sued successfully, I'd say no. As to whether they would fire you upon finding out, that would have to be a guess, but I think a lot of companies would indeed fire you, not because of any money they lost on the deal, but because this kind of thing makes middle managers very nervous for their own jobs. It's probably two-to-one that they'd fire you. Only a guess; it depends a lot on company culture and politics.
