Legal Question in Business Law in California
I have a business partner we did not legal partnership paperwork we have a store front that is leased in my name only we have not opened for business or purchased product to sell we have not even opened yet and unfortunately our partnership is ending because of many of reasons however my question is this she is stating I owe her money for her half of the rent 250$ since may 2015 she has had a key and full access to the storefront since I signed the lease and currently has the key do I owe her rent? mind you she has been late on her half of rent every single month since may I am willing to reimburse her for the store fixtures bought but rent seems ridiculous. the only legal paperwork we have together is a business license and sellers permit

Since you don't have a written agreement, any dispute will be based on her word against yours. If all you are arguing about is $250, it might save you a lot of time and hassle to just pay her off or negotiate something less. Whatever you do, make sure she signs some sort of agreement giving you full ownership of the business. If you don't, and the business takes off, you can bet she will come back demanding her half.
