Legal Question in Business Law in California

Business Permits/Licenses

I am starting a production company (already formed as a California Corporation) for production, production services, distribution and other operations. I need to get the appropriate licenses/permits to do business in the City of Los Angeles. What forms do I need to fill out? How do I know I've obtained all the licenses necessary?

Re: Business Permits/Licenses

Loom in the city government section of the phone book for a department that has a name like "Business Licenses" or "License Bureau." Don't stop at just appyling for a business license; ask them for comprehensive information about licensing and permit requirements. They probably have pamphlets from other government agencies you need to contact. Otherwise, the Secretary of State's Web site has lists for new business. Ask the local IRS and Franchise Tax Board and EDD offices for their print materials for new business. Finally, buy a paperback self-help law book (for example, from Nolo Press) on how to operate a new corporation.
