Legal Question in Business Law in California
Client has owed our company over $22,000 for the past year. Worked out a weekly payment plan (without interested), yet, they stopped paying about 30 day's ago and, of course, each time I request a payment via email or text, a "stock" response comes in stating payment will come in soon, payment is on it's way OR it slipped their mind. Current amount owed is almost $19,000. How much will it cost me to start the attorney approach. I believe small claims court max. for businesses is only $5000. Client is located in Los Angeles, CA and I'm located in Westlake Village, CA

If your contract does not have an attorney fee clause, you are in a tough position. It's probably worth your while to have a consultation with a litigation attorney regarding a budget and the options for obtaining a Judgment in the case. Also, revise your contract to provide for attorney fees going forward.
