Legal Question in Business Law in California

I had a company come to take care of some mold problem but they left some equipment at the house. They told us previously that they want us to leave the house open so they can come whenever they want to take care of it, but we forgot to leave it open today and no one is home to open the door. Are they allowed to threaten to sue us or raise the promised price?

You should have a written contract. What does it say about additional charges for this-and-that? To me it seems improper for home-maintenance contractors to ask an owner to leave the property unlocked; in many neighborhoods, this is quite unsafe. I would think the contractor could give you at least some notice by cell phone. Finally, it would be quite unreasonable to sue for a visit made without prior arrangements, and if you are sued, I'd say you would have a good chance of winning, unless this arrangement was set forth in your written contract.
