Can I use a company logo and change it a little and use it for personal use? Such as the M from McDonalds and make it into McDavids. It won't be used for commercial use just a family get together.

This is probably a technical misappropriation of the trademark, but not one that is likely to offend the trademark owner.

As a Franchise Attorney I can say this. If you're talking about the stylized M in McDonalds, and that's been protected as a trademark, then technically there probably is trademark infringement. Whether they find out about it and take legal action are unknowns. Consult with a good business or franchise attorney in your area for specific advice.
