Legal Question in Business Law in California

Company's vendor makes false claims

Is it legal for a vendor to make false claims to get us to pay them for unpaid accounts? I work as a file clerk in the AP dept of our company. I do not make contacts with our vendors and when I do get inquires, I forward them to the appropriate persons. I am so unimportant that my number is not listed on our company's address book. Recently, a vendor of ours had create a problem for us that it escalated to our CFO by closing our account and sending it to a collection agency. The vendor claims that it called and emailed me many messages about the delinquencies and the final warning that the account will be closed. They provided details on the time and days they contacted me over the past year. I do not have any messages in any forms. My CFO wants a name from my boss on who is the cause of all of this. My boss is trying hard not to give me up but the vendor continues to name drop me. I feel so wrongly accused and I don't know how to defend myself.

Re: Company's vendor makes false claims

If it is true that you do not interact with vendors, then assert that fact. Of course, you will have to explain why a vendor would even have your email in the first place. It would be helpful if you have copies of emails you forwarded to others in your company regarding vendor issues. This will support your assertion that you do not handle vendor issues.
