Legal Question in Business Law in California
Computer as collateral?
I own a company that performs computer repairs. If I complete repairs on a customer's computer, can I hold their computer as collateral until they pay?
Thank you for your help!

Re: Computer as collateral?
Yes. Civil Code section 3051 covers possessory liens for services, repairs, etc. and exceptions. If you currently have physical possession of the equipment and are owed money for repairs requested by the owner, you almost certainly can claim a lien on the equipment, entitling you to hold it until paid the reasonable value of the services provided at the owner's behest.
