Legal Question in Business Law in California

Corporate filing without attorney

I have been told that a Corporation cannot file an answer or a complaint utililizing one of their officers instead of using an attorney. Is this true? I know that a Corporation can file a resolution in small claims court using one of their officers but how about municipal/superior court? Does anyone know and if you do, can you quote the Code for me please??

Thank you,

Re: Corporate filing without attorney

A corporation cannot appear in court (other than small claims) without an attorney. the reason a corporate officer cannot represent a corporation is because that is practicing law without a license.

Corporations are not permitted to appear in Municipal or Superior Court actions unless they are represented by an attorney.

Small claims is the exact opposite where attorneys are not permitted to represent parties in small claims court.
