Legal Question in Business Law in California

DBA in Santa Clara County

Hello All

I am trying to setup a freelance design

business. I guess the first part of thee

question is what do I need for it to be

official. I have checked and the name

is free. Then, I figure it would be a

DBA. Is That correct. I will have no

employees just my self. What else is

needed in order to form the business?

Thanks so much for the help!

You need to get a local business license (city or county) and keep books so you can report profit & loss from the business to the IRS and FTB on 1040 Schedule C. I'd also resommend getting a paperback book or two (Nolo Press, for example) on how to be an entrepreneur.
