Legal Question in Business Law in California

Direct TV unfair billing Practice

When I signed up for basic service with Direct TV I was told that my bill would be around 29.00 per month by the representative. after three months my bill sky rocketed and I had to call Direct TV each month to cancel the services that I never ordered or agreed to. As an example, charges like to some of the premium channel showed up. I asked them I never asked for that in the first place why am I being charged and responded that the package comes with a free three months but I could cancel that. Now another charges like "Watch Direct TV on TV" and "Service Warranty coverage" appeared". I called them and asked where these charges came from and why my service went to $41 instead of the agreed $29 they said these charges are necessary to keep the your Direct TV operational. I asked why was I not told these charges and they responded they don't know what transpired at the time of service. I asked would anyone subscribe to Direct TV without having the ability to watch TV and responded some do!

I asked why do I have to pay to for the equipment and services warranty and the response was if your service is interrupted for any reason w will have to charge you for restoration!

It seems that every month a new charge is popping up and cancelling the service will cost me over $350.00. this is unfair and not ethical.

Do I have any recourse on to get out of this contract specially when it is not justified or making an sense?

I don't know what a representative (on the phone?) might have told you, but I'm somewhat familiar with this firm's advertising, which offers a bundle of three services (phone, TV and Internet??? or something like that) as a package deal for $29.99 a month EACH, or a total of $89.97 a month. Perhaps you misunderstood that you were signing up for a package deal. I have no idea about their cancellation policies.
