Legal Question in Business Law in California

Door to door

I would like to know if their is a law by the california or US supreme court to where it is leagle to knock door to door without any permit. If so please let me know what the law code is and where I can find this law at.. Thank you.

The law is the Bill of Rights. Specifically the 1st (freedom of speech and religion) and the 14th Amendment.

Sorry, I forgot something. The most recent and specific case is Watchtower Bible & Tract Society of New York et al v. Village of Stratton, decided by the United States Supreme Court in 2002. If you go to findlaw.com or some other website that has the Supreme Court Opinions, you can search by party name and get the whole opinion. The vote was 8-1 in favor of Watchtower. The city of Stratton required permits before people could canvas door to door. The Supreme Court of the United States overturned such a restriction on freedom of speech and religion.
