Legal Question in Business Law in California
I emailed an attorney seeking representation for a civil case.
We had some back and forth emails and I'm not sure if we spoke on the phone.
Now, one year later the attorney is representing the Defendant.
Is this legal? Can an attorney review and discuss my case and then represent the opposing party?

If you discussed substantive -- rather than procedural -- matters, I would say that the attorney should not be representing the defendant. Your attorney should send a letter to the attorney reminding the attorney that you previously had discussed the issues in the case and that the attorney should withdraw from the case. If not, your attorney might want to file a motion to disqualify the attorney.
