An employee cannot be terminated unless and until he or she is informed of the termination. There are some laws requiring certain larger employers to give prior notice of large-scale layoffs. However, I know of no law limiting the right of an employer to terminate an employee "on the spot" and have them escorted off the property at once. Any accrued pay and vacation must be paid promptly, of course.
