Legal Question in Business Law in California

Is my employmenbt contract binding?

In 1992, I was hired as a Manager in the inventory service industry. Part of my employment package and appplication was a contract that says I can not work for a competitor in our industry for 2 years after I leave employment?

Can my former company actually prohibit and inhibit my career search? This is the only industry I have worked in my entire adult life, and there are only about 5 competitors in the industry. This is the area that my skills and experiense fall under. There was no advancement opportunity with my former employer. I had an interview with a company in this industry and they are very interested in utilizing my skills, but it may jeopardized if this ''non-compete'' clause holds up.

Re: Is my employmenbt contract binding?

California has one of the, if not the strictest laws re such contracts. Need more info, however. May or may not be valid. Need to see more.

Re: Is my employmenbt contract binding?

No. In California it is illegal for an employer to keep you from seeking another job in your profession.
