Legal Question in Business Law in California
I'm an EU citizen. I'm interested in trademarking a tagline for my UK company in the US. Does the company need to be registered in the US for me to apply for a trademark? And if so, is it necessary to be a US citizen to register a company in the US? I appreciate your assistance! Best regards!

The answers to your specific questions are "No, and no." However, if you are registering a mark, it must be with the intent to use it in actual commerce in the U.S. So at some point you are going to have to comply with the requirements for doing business in the U.S., which may involve setting up a U.S. subsidiary, or registering as a foreign business doing business in the U.S. How best to do that, what the options are, and the legal ramifications of those choices are not something for amateurs, with or without internet consultations. So you should plan on finding a lawyer who can help you navigate that process sooner, rather than later.
