Failure to deliver services after deposit accepted and contract signed

How do I pursure recovery of a $300 deposit paid on a contract for some work on my home that was never performed. The person that was to deliver the service is not returning any calls and it has been 3 weeks.

Send a certified letter, return receipt demanding that they perform the work by XXX date. Keep a copy of the letter. If they don't perform, then your only recourse would be a small claims lawsuit and perhaps a claim on their bond to the contractors' board if they're licensed.

File a small claims action in the County of the contracting person's business.

Letter, small claims court, complaint to State Contractors License Board (you would never ever, I trust, hire an unlicensed contractor to work on your home).
