Legal Question in Business Law in California
Ficticious names
I am starting an organization/club....there is no money or pay involved, however we have chosen an official name to go by, and don't want anyone else to take it....I was told not to file a FBN because they are for businesses who collect monies....what should I do then?

Re: Ficticious names
The point of a fictitious business name filing is to protect the public from being defrauded, not to protect you or your organization. A trademark filing, assuming you are eligible for one, may provide the protection you seek. A FBN filing does not cover non-profits, but if you're not a non-profit, you still may be able to file a FBN.
