Legal Question in Business Law in California
Do we need to file a fictitious biz name if only marketing together?
A colleague and I are starting our own businesses. We'd like to start as two sole proprietorships but want to market together under a single website/logo.
1. Do we need to file a DBA to simply market jointly (we'll bill independently)?
2. If we only market together, is it treated as a partnership from a liability/tax standpoint?

If you work together under same name, you will most likely be equally at risk for being sued. You should think about incorporating with an attorney that has handled these small businesses before.
I would be happy to discuss this further if you would like.
