Fingerprint Required to Cash Check

Can a non-profit agency require a person to provide a fingerprint in order to cash a check.

Yes. Organizations are allowed to take reasonable steps to ensure that the person cashing a check is who he or she claims to be, including fingerprinting. Whether an agency is nonprofit has nothing to do with it.

If your actions are reasonable (i.e. actions are necessary to protect your business) you may require a fingerprint to cash checks. You must make sure that you apply this standard uniformily to all employees that will be cashing checks to avoid any discrimination issues.
