Legal Question in Business Law in California
I have a friend who was due to recieve a package from FedEx containing a large amount of cash. The package was held by FedEx security. What legal action can be taken to get the package back and/or is my friend in any sort of trouble for having the cash sent to him. He lives off the grid so I'm trying to research the matter and find out any info that will help.

They are probably trying to find a way to figure out whether there has been some crime committed, and or, how they can keep the money. You should have legal counsel. I may be able to help you get it back if you want to send an email to my office.

FedEx rules prohibit shipment of cash. Their rules also say they will not deliver any prohibited item that gets shipped in violation of a prohibition. Their envelopes say do not send cash, and that shipments may be opened for inspection. There is probably a criminal investigation under way, and your "friend" can expect to hear from the authorities before he sees any of the contents of the package. See U.S. v. Young, 350 F.3d 1302 (2003 WL 22714990, 11th Cir., 2003).
As a franchise attorney, I can only add one other detail. The fact that your "friend" is living off the grid (whatever that actually means) is just another complicating factor. The authorities, including the IRS, will take a keen interest in this case. Consult with a good business or franchise attorney in your area for specific advice.
