It is not unlawful to work out of your home. However, you may need a business license for your home business if it is in a city other than the city where your salon is located. The income from your home business is taxable no different than the income earned at your shop.

Other limitations may include CC&R limitations. if you live in a condo, apartment or a planned unit development, the CC&R may prohibit home businesses (although residents frequently ignore these). There may also be local ordinances that prohibit businesses in residential areas.
