Legal Question in Business Law in California
I hired a moving company to move some furniture from los angeles to jersey city, nj. They delayed delivery by about 2 weeks on top of the scheduled delivery date. Can I file a claim in small claims court to recover costs spent because of the delay?

I think you should read your contract very carefully to see what it says about claims and losses of this kind. Transit delays by carriers are sometimes not compensable - try collecting from an airline when they are four hours late and you miss your very important meeting! Also, there may be a question of jurisdiction. Your contract may attempt to give jurisdiction to another state or to Federal courts (this was a move in interstate commerce). Then, I suggest looking at the California Public Utilities Commission's Web site to see what it says about making complaints against interstate carriers of household goods that involve California. I do not give a Small Claims action a high percentage success estimate.
