Is it illegal to purchase pirated DVDs? I bet my friend that it is.

While it's unlikely that Your Friend would be prosecuted for buying a single, or a few, pirated DVDs, if you know they're pirated, sure it's illegal. Selling even one pirated DVD at a flea market carries the risk that the buyer will be an undercover agent.

Both the purchaser and seller are guilty if the purchaser knows or has reason to know it is a pirate. An innocent purchaser with no knowledge or reason to know, would not be guilty.
