Legal Question in Business Law in California

I have an invoice from a Business showing a deposit of 2500 dollars. It's 5 years old, goods and services where never provided. It has no end dates Listed. The business has since changed it's name, but still never changed it's phone number. And shows same owner, can I get back my deposit.

The easy answer is NO, you can't recover your deposit, because the four-year statute of limitations for suit on a written contract probably would provide the business with a complete defense. However, have you asked for it? If the owner is honest (and solvent), he may just give it back to you. Also, there is a slight chance that you might have some legal argument that a suit is not barred by the statute of limitations, but pursuing such chances would require more information and may not be worth it for a $2,500 potential recovery.
