Legal Question in Business Law in California

the landlord upped the rent without proper notice can they do that ?

my mother has a buisness of 30 yeaars and last month the new owners of the building that she rents sent her a letter saying that next month meaning this month the rent would be almost dubled! can they due that without a proper 30 day notice?

also due to the sudden increase of the rent the employees/tenents of the buisness decided to look else were for work and planning to leave today can they just up and leave without giving my mother a proper 30 day notice? so in a nutshell my mothers buiness is going down in smoke because the new owners of the building just decided to raise the rent !

Your mother is entitled to 30 days notice of a rent increase in a month to month tenancy, which is what it appears she has been operating under. He employees, unless they have an employment contract, are simply employees "at will." In that relationship she could have terminated their employment without any prior notice, as well.
