Legal Question in Business Law in California
Has any laws been broken by my mechanic? He excepted money for a part to fix my cars transmission. Failing to find the part he then offers to give the money back to me so that I could find the part. I don't have the time to find the part myself and I thought I was paying him to fix my car. Also he pulled the old transmission out of my car already.

Gosh, I don't think so. The guy seems to be trying hard to assist you and get the job done. I have had some experience with shopping for hard-to-find car parts, and at my age then (20s), I was a lot better off going from junkyard to junkyard myself than paying an $X per hour mechanic to do it for me. You should try to work with him. Maybe hire a third party to find the part if you don't have time. Doesn't the manufacturer stock the part any more? That's where I'd go first. Also, there are elaborate computer networks that dealers and junkies use to locate rare parts. Make sure whoever's looking (a) knows exactly what's needed, and (b) uses the internet to the maximum.
