Legal Question in Business Law in California
Lawyer phone call
I had a call 8:20Am my time, or 6:20 California time.
The individual left a messange on my answering machine, stating name, and law firm, but was said so fast, i couldn't understand it.
The individual says I am to call back to find out what is going on in the lawyer's office.
My question is, is it common practice for a lawyer to not tell you what the business is over the message, such as ''regarding power of attorney'' for an example?
I tried searching online for this supposed lawyer, and cannot find this supposed lawyer in a phone listing.

It is probably a collection effort. They shouldn't be calling that early.
Re: Lawyer phone call
You can find a listing for the attorney by going to http://www.calbar.ca.gov/state/calbar/ calbar_home.jsp and clicking on the button to search for an attorney. Whether an attorney leaves a message depends upon the attorney. I sometimes leave my name and telephone number and say I am calling for whomever I am trying to reach. If you owe someone money, however, Mr. Choen is probably correct.

I concur with my colleagues in California...it has the indicia of something shady going on. You can search on the Calbar website as well as the Iowa Supreme Court website.
