Legal Question in Business Law in California

Currently legal cases

Hello:

I am researching many privately held, US based corporations. I would like to know whether it's possible for me to determine whether each is currently involved in any lawsuits, and if so, the basis for each suit. If it is possible, can you tell me how to do this?

Thank you,

Re: Currently legal cases

Lawsuits are public information so the information you seek is available. However, it's not always that easy to obtain. You generally need to have access to databases like Lexis Nexis or the like.

If the companies you are reasearching are not publicly traded companies, the only way to get the information you seek is by searching public records. You can perform searches on lexis/nexus on a per search basis. Other alternatives include hiring an attorney service or similar service to search the plaintiff/defendant indices in the vaious courthouses in California, or you could try to search the internet to locate the names of the companies you are researching. If any news articles are located they may involve pending lawsuits.
