Legal Question in Business Law in California

Am I liable for a late invoice?

I recently received and invoice from a Chiropractor I saw consistently from July 2000 through April 2001, but haven't visited since. The arrangement at the Chiropractor's office was to pay the balance at the time of service. Each visit they calculated the ''Blue Shield Rate'' (my insurance company), and I was charged that amount. Now, over a year, and in some cases nearly two years later, they are claiming that I did not pay the full balance on nearly all those visits and I owe them a balance of $805.29. They included an analysis of what I paid each visit, which is correct, but they are saying that the Blue Shield prices changed and they miscalculated them. Am I responsible for the additional charges, when I paid what I was told was the balance at the time?

Re: Am I liable for a late invoice?

You may be, but in many cases it is a problem with an over-zealous billing clerk at the chiropractor office.

Tell them that you plan to contact Blue Shield and file a complaint with them. Also, before doing that, contact Blue Shield to determine what you should have been billed. The Chiropractor, in order to be part of Blue Shield, must agree to take only a specified amount in payment.
