Legal Question in Business Law in California
I am a licensed and insured Personal Chef. This means that I shop, purchase food, and then prepare the food for my clients in their own homes. A friend wants to hire me to "cater" her church group luncheon meeting in September, using the church's commercial kitchen. She says -- and the church people say--that it's "okay" for me to do this. I called the city where the church is located to see if this is legal to do with a Personal Chef license (versus a catering license and ServSafe certification), and they didn't give me a straight yes or no answer. If anyone could tell me if this is legal for me to do, or point me to a place where I can find the answer, I'd really appreciate it. Thank you.

You may want to check the following link maintained by the Alcohol Beverage Control board:

As to local regulations, you would need to check the local regulations in the area where you intend to do the luncheon meeting. I suggest determining whether the location is in a city, and then look at that city's municipal code. Many cities in California have their municipal codes available online.
