Re: Mechanics lien how to apply with out vehicle

Your job duties may expose you to a bunch of laws. Find out if the company has a lawyer and if you could get some coaching from him/her.

There is a recent (1999 publication date) Nolo Press self-help book on mechanics' liens addressed primarily to homeowners and small contractors. It might be helpful, but it seems to me your employer should either give you the training you need or access to its lawyer so you can get advice.

The repossession and lien sale businesses are regulated in California. See the Financial Code sections 22000-22752. Vehicle Code sections 6300-6303 may also apply to your activity.

Copies of the codes are available at designated public law libraries--there is at least one in every county--and also at most general public libraries.

Be careful and good luck.
