Legal Question in Business Law in California

Why did Nokia decided to sue Apple for patent infringements (oct. 2009) in the State of Delaware (instead of another State - like California where apple is based - or country - like Finland)?

What are the advantages for Nokia to pursue a lawsuit in Delaware?

Thank you very much for your time.

Parties to lawsuits often select a forum that they think will be friendlier to them, it's called home-court advantage. Why would Nokia sue Apple in Delaware? Any number of reasons. Maybe Nokia's lawyers are physically closer to Wilmington, Delaware. Maybe one or the other corporations is incorporated there. Maybe they just fear that a federal court in Northern California (all patent lawsuits are heard in federal court) would be biased against them.
