Legal Question in Business Law in California
Non Profit
I am president of a museum in CA. Our museum is specialized in Cold War specifically related to CA. We have decided to form a County Museum in order to make our organization more viable and since our County has no museum. Several local historical organizations are in support of our efforts and a couple of them have not obtained 501 c 3 yet. Should we form a separate entity as a group exemtion or can we use our existing one and change it to a group organization with a DBA? Are ther other alternatives? Also, yes we will obtain our own attorney when we can afford one, as you can imagine times are really hard right now. We appreciate any advice you can offer.

Re: Non Profit
It depends on what you are looking to do. A 501 c 3 will be helpful if you really expect to get significant contributions - otherwise, it may not be necessary and another entity may do fine. I am close friends with a good attorney who would be very interested in a museum about the Cold War. He is a big war and history buff. Even if you are not sure you need anything from me, I would be happy to connect you. please give me a call or send me an email.
Best,
Daniel Bakondi, Esq.
